Hi, I’m Alex.
Musician, mindset coach, and hype man for hire.
I count myself pretty lucky these days…
Following my dream of becoming a professional horn player has allowed me to travel all over the world, and along with my work as a mindset coach and teacher, my work is varied, engaging, challenging, and satisfying.
I’ve crafted a terrific work life balance, leaving me plenty of time for my family, my passions, and my hobbies like rock climbing and adventuring in the wilderness of New Zealand.
How we define success is obviously extremely personal, but I am confident that I am leading a life that is true to me.
But it hasn’t always been like this.
For a long time I struggled with perfectionism, believing I was never good enough, and trying to control things that were outside of my power. My self-talk was exclusively negative and critical, and I was forever coming up with limiting self-beliefs. The harder I threw myself into my music practice, the more single-minded I became, the worse things got.
I was physically unhealthy, unhappy, and my horn playing suffered.
Fortunately, I had some extraordinary teachers and mentors who encouraged me to keep a healthy distance from my passion. As a kid, I pursued the horn because I loved it and it was fun. Yet I had developed this perception, whether real or imagined, that one could only achieve success by sacrificing all else, friendship, health, and happiness.
Having come out the other side, I’m very pleased to say that this negative approach need not be the case, because frankly, if that’s what success means, then I don’t want it.
And this is what my Mindset Coaching is all about: the strategic application of a positive outlook, a healthy work life balance, and proven techniques for effective learning to enable us to flourish as both musicians and as people.
